History of CJSS

CJSS The Story So Far,

2006 Inaugural Event:

The idea for a Classic Japanese Car Show began many years ago after going to Car Shows where the Japanese marques were shunned, being called ‘Jap Crap’, ‘Buzz Burners’ & much more.
After attending the 40th Anniversary of the Prince Skylines in Bathurst over Easter 2006, with a good turn out for this event, I decided the time was right to see this idea become a reality.  I approached the Z car Club Qld Inc for their support & so the Classic Japanese Show & Shine (CJSS) was born.  With October 1st 2006 being the date set for the Inaugural Show & only 3 ½ months to organize the event, this proved to be quite a task.
Pine Rivers Shire Council offered the grounds at Strathpine free of charge. Our major sponsor this year was Metro Nissan, Lutwyche  Rd Windsor with Shannons Insurance & Tyres & More Strathpine also promising their support.  Angel Flight is our nominated Charity.  Food & other stalls were invited to attend.
The word was spread by friends & web site forums. As the day drew closer entries were slow to come in & I was not sure if the Show would happen. The day did go ahead with 134 entrants including those who entered on the day. The vehicles were lined up by manufacturer & clubs, surrounding the oval & up on the hill – what a wonderful sight!
Represented were the Z Car Club, Datsun Sporties Club, Rising Sun Car Register (Toyota), Early Datsun Club, 3 Prince Skylines, 4 Izusu Bellettes,  5 Honda S600 coupe & sedans,  Diahatsu Cuppicino,  Celica Club & Mitsubishi Colt GSR to name a few.
Various Trophies were awarded on the day with Best Vehicle awarded to M. Landon.
The day was a great success with Angel Flight receiving $250.00

2007 Event:

This year saw more sponsors join our ranks – Metro Suzuki & Leaded Magazine.
The same location was planned for the 26th August 2007 event.  This year more entries arrived prior to the day but so did the rain.  The date had to be changed by 2 weeks to give the grounds time to dry out. Unfortunately this prevented some registered vehicles from coming.  The total number this year was 168 on the day with some 19 registered but unable to attend.

This year saw a number of entrants with younger model cars.  Even though the event is “Classic” we want to attract ALL Japanese vehicles.  Clubs were more supportive this year with some entering 5 or more vehicles.  Another Great Day!!

2008 Event:

With a successful 2007 event behind us we aimed at breaking the 200 entrants for 2008.
The same location was retained, however the Council was doing an upgrade of the oval & we were allocated an area amongst the trees & gardens.  This proved to be popular as the other area became very hot at the height of day.
Two new Sponsors, Grand Prix Mazda & Sci Fleet Toyota,  joined the growing list of sponsors. Also this year Queensland Performance Datsun Club & 7 of Clubs (Mazda) joined the committee, which made organizing the event easier.
The theme this year focused on Car Clubs with a Trophy awarded to Best Club.  We also saw vehicles which were usually only seen at events like the Jamboree at Queensland Raceway.  Also participating was the Vintage Japanese Motor Cycle Club (VJMC) with 14 bikes on display.
With a smaller area this year & entrant numbers reaching 201 & 14 bikes, it was a bit of a cosy fit, but it worked.  With 21 car groups/clubs represented & quite a number of individual entrants the word is spreading.
Our donation to Angel Flight was $1900.00 this year.
We also had the addition of a public address system with an announcer, which allowed for sponsors, clubs & individuals to be interviewed.  Entrants also had the option of having their vehicles judged, which proved a much bigger task than previously envisaged.

2009 Event:

Venue: Pine Rivers Park Strathpine  (on Bald Hills Flats)
Date: 18th October 2009
THE SHOW IS NOW OVER FOR YET ANOTHER YEAR
With another sunny Queensland day, there were only a few clouds around which were just enough to take the sting away.
2009 was another success!
Having a MC and with pleasant music to break the atmosphere, all had a great day.
To break the monotony there was a tug-o-war which was made up by four teams. Each team had five per side
First up was Motorman Imports against Dr.Datto Motorsport. A hard fought battle which required 3 attempts to get a winner. The result was Dr.Datto (Adam and the boys) beating Motorman Imports.
Next up was QPDC against a sprawly bunch with some heavy anchor men in this groupIt took again three goes to get a winner, which was Queensland Performance Datsun Club A break was required.
The pressure was getting to the teams So the toss-a-piston was started.
The piston had to thrown using 2 hands and a swing down and between the legs, with no run up.This was a 6.45kg piston from a Caterpillar engine which was approximately 180mm deep with a radius of 140mm. Not as easy as those who attempted to try found out.
After a distance challenge of inches, the end result was Chris our trusty announcer winning on his 4th attempt. The winning Distance was 8.75 metres.
Back to the tug-a-war With both teams being Datsun based honour was at stake. However Dr Datto was too good. Well done, especially as the sun had come out from behind the clouds
With the three official judges doing there bit and a new electronic set up thanks to  Results were in. 1.00pm saw the presentation started I took time to thank those who were sponsors, helpers, and the SES.
